Windward Community College's Center for Aerospace Education is hosting the *"She is an Astronomer" symposium* for students on *Thursday, December 3, from 10:00-11:30 a.m.*The symposium will take place at the Paliku Theatre on the campus of Windward Community College in Kaneohe.

A panel of female astronomers from UH's Institute for Astronomy will discuss their research, followed by a question and answer session exploring careers in astronomy.

Dr. Dora Nakafuji of Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) will present a seminar on renewable energy in California. Before joining HECO, Dr. Nakafuji worked as technical lead on a renewable energy program at the California Energy Commission. She has more than 12 years experience working on renewable energy integration in California and Hawaii.

It compares some of the techniques for harnessing ocean currents and vertical waves. Also included is a discusson by Hawaii scientists who are currently exploring this new fuel source. Learn about seed selection, propagation and growing vegetables from seeds in this class taught by studnits of the UH College of Tropical Agriculture. Participants will receive a selection of seeds developed specifically for Hawaii gardens. Seeds will also be available for purchase.
